At our plastic and reconstructive surgery center, we offer eyelid surgery in Toronto for patients who want to refresh the appearance of their eyes by getting rid of wrinkles, puffy undereye bags, and noticeable sagging around the eyelids. Each eyelid surgery performed by plastic surgeon Dr. Plant is completely personalized based on the aesthetic needs of the patient.

Am I the Right Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

There is no doubt that the appearance of bags or puffiness under your eyes, any excess skin on the lower lids, or wrinkled and drooping upper lids can make you look old and fatigued. For patients in Toronto and Orillia, sagging eyelids could also be caused by genetics or aging. Eyelid problems can lead to impaired vision as well.

Patients in the Mississauga and Vaughan, Ontario area may look to eyelid surgery in Toronto for help addressing these concerns. During your consultation, Dr. Plant can examine the condition of your eyelids and go over your relevant medical history to let you know if you are a good candidate for eyelid surgery.

Preparing for Eyelid Surgery

Patients must take care to prepare properly for their eyelid surgery procedure. This will help to prevent complications during and after surgery.

If you are a smoker, you will need to stop smoking several weeks before the date of the blepharoplasty procedure. Smoking has a negative impact on skin health and can lead to complications during the procedure. It can also necessitate a prolonged recovery process.

You will also need to avoid NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), since their blood-thinning effects can cause bleeding issues during surgery. Your doctor will help you change your dosages of these medications as needed. Certain herbal supplements also have blood-thinning effects and thus must be avoided before surgery.

Patients will need to arrange for a ride home from their procedure in advance. A friend or family member must pick you up, because you will not be able to drive for a time after eyelid surgery. You will also need to arrange for time off from work in advance.

It will be important to prepare your bedroom properly for your recovery process. This will include making sure all medical supplies are nearby and ensuring that you have enough pillows to keep your head elevated while you are sleeping.

On the day of your eyelid surgery, avoid wearing any facial jewelry and applying makeup and skincare products. It’s best to wear loose-fitting clothing. Do not eat or drink anything for six hours before eyelid surgery.

Upper Eyelid Procedure

To ensure all incisions are concealed, Dr. Plant places them along the natural crease and lines of the upper eyelids. Loose muscles, excess skin, and fat are removed for a smooth and uplifted eyelid. In the Clearview area, the use of fine sutures further ensures scars remain invisible.

Lower Eyelid Procedure

The incisions are made along the smile crease or the lash line of the lower lid or even inside the eyelid. Once any excess skin, fat, and muscle is removed, the under-eye bags disappear. For some Toronto patients, fat deposits may be positioned a little higher in the socket to give a fuller look to the eyelids.

So happy with the results!

“Its been two weeks since my lower bleph surgery. I had bruising that only lasted about a week. After 2 days it already started to go away. I didn’t have any major swelling at all. As of today the scars are pretty much invisible. No one can figure out what I did, they keep asking if I did something with my hair or did fillers. They all say I look fresh. So happy with the results!” Read More Reviews

Is This Procedure Really for Me?

Dr. Plant performs eyelid surgery on Toronto men and women between ages 35 to 85. This can, however, also be performed on somebody younger suffering from hereditary problems like drooping lids. Do keep in mind, though, that sagging brows or dark circles under the eyes cannot be remedied with this procedure.

How Long is the Recovery From Eyelid Surgery?

Once the procedure is completed, the sutures are lubricated using ointment. You may also require eye drops and bandages on the lower lids. Some swelling and bruising may occur around the eyes. These issues will subside over time.

After a period of 2 to 3 days, patients should be able to read, watch television, or work on their computers. Patients from the Clearview and Scarborough areas can expect Dr. Plant to guide them through the recovery process.
