There are various methods today which make liposuction less painful and safe. Dr. Plant may use one of the following liposuction techniques when undergoing Toronto Liposuction:
Tumescent Liposuction
Using a local anesthesia, the area where the cannula is to be inserted is numbed. A large dose of anesthetic solution containing epinephrine and lidocaine is injected into the fat tissue prior to performing traditional liposuction. This technique may not require general anesthesia.
Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction
Fat is liquefied using ultrasound during this procedure. This makes the fat easier to remove, especially from the sides, upper abdomen and the back.
Laser Assisted Liposuction
In this procedure, low energy waves are used for liquefying the fat. This is then removed using a cannula.
Radiofrequency Assisted Liposuction
Radiofrequency Assisted Liposuction (RFAL), a newer liposuction technique, offers cosmetic patients both skin tightening and fat removal in one procedure. RFAL is more effective and safer than ultrasound assisted and laser assisted liposuction. Radiofrequency energy delivered through a system heats the skin and underlying fat. The fat is heated to the point where it becomes a liquid and is suctioned out from below the skin in a much gentler fashion than traditional liposuction. The energy also stimulates the skin causing collagen to regenerate, increasing the tightness and firmness of the skin. RFAL can also be done in conjunction with a cellulite solution to tighten and improve the appearance of your skin.
If you have stubborn areas of fat that are not affected by exercise and diet, like the outer thighs and hips on women, or the waist and back on men, then you may be a good candidate for liposuction in Toronto. Other patients get liposuction on areas like their face, neck, or upper areas of the arms. If you are not overweight and are looking to add contours to these areas, liposuction may be the answer for you. Ontario women and men throughout Toronto, Mississauga and surrounding areas of Richmond Hill and Markham have experienced great results from liposuction with Dr. Plant. With an office in Toronto, patients from all over Canada can benefit from liposuction.
Most Toronto patients will be able to move around immediately after the liposuction procedure once the effects of all sedation have worn off. As soon as you are comfortable, you may return to any normal activities.
Once the procedure is complete, the treated area is firmly wrapped to reduce bruising, swelling and any pain. Any garment that fits the area firmly, a supporting hose, elastic bandaging or a special girdle may be used depending on which part of the body is treated. You may have to wear this for about a month. You may experience swelling and bruising for the first week or so or your surgery.

During your liposuction procedure, stubborn fat cells are removed from target areas and you are left with an enhanced body contour that will improve over the next several weeks to months. There has been speculation about what happens to the fat after surgery, if the fat comes back over time or redistributes to other areas of the body – creating a disproportioned contour. Research shows that this is not the case.
According to a study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), fat cells do not return to the treated areas following liposuction, nor do they get redistributed to other untreated areas of the body. Except for cases of high volume weight gain, liposuction can maintain dramatic contoured results for patients in many different body types. That being said, liposuction does not change the ability for a patient to gain or lose weight, is not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle and is not a weight loss treatment.
