Recovering from a Brazilian Butt Lift

The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure is on the rise thanks to celebrities such as the Kardashians, Jennifer Lopez, and Iggy Azalea making a bigger booty desirable. The Brazilian Butt Lift procedure is a type of butt augmentation that uses the patient’s own fat to augment the shape and size of the buttocks and hips. Liposuction is used to remove fat from other areas of the body like the stomach, thighs, and hips, and that fat is then transferred to the butt and hips. Read on for some tips on how to make your BBL recovery an easier one.

The Basics

Right after your Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL Tips), you will experience bruising and swelling in the areas that were used to harvest fat cells. Any discomfort can be controlled with pain medication. Because every patient will recovery differently, the exact amount of downtime will vary. However, most people are able to be up and walking the day after surgery.

Wear Your Compression Garment!

After your procedure, you will be given a special compression garment for the areas where liposuction was done. It is very important that you wear your compression garment for 6 weeks for optimal results. Not only does the compression garment help to support your new body contours, it also helps to minimize swelling, decrease discomfort, and help the skin to retract.

No Sitting or Lying on it

One of the most important tips for recovery from a BBL is to not sit or lie directly on your buttocks! Patients should avoid sitting on their butts for at least 4 weeks after the procedure. You can sleep on your stomach, and if you absolutely have to sit down, it is recommended that you use the special pillow you’ll be given to sit on that puts the pressure on the back of your thighs rather than the buttocks. This tip is so important because pressure from sitting or lying directly on your butt can negatively affect blood circulation to the area, destroying fat cells and causing contour irregularities

Getting Back on Your Feet

Right after your BBL procedure, strenuous activities should be avoided. After about one month, you can resume light activities such as power-walking. However, depending on how well you are recovering, you may be able to return to your normal activities after about 6-8 weeks. When the fat cells have stabilized, more strenuous activities can be resumed. Remember to carefully follow post-op instructions to ensure optimal results!
